Charlottesville VA Covenant School Conducts 4th Annual Community Service Project

A leading Charlottesville school announced that 300 middle and high students participated in their 4th annual community service day in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season. Students from The Covenant School served at locations throughout the area by donating 1,500 hours of community service.

The Covenant School, in Charlottesville, VA, announced that their middle and high school students participated in the school’s annual community service day, giving back to the community in a variety of ways. Around 300 students donated 1,500 hours of service to local causes.

In keeping with the tradition and the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday, Covenant Upper School students took part in the fourth annual community service day. They served around the Greater Charlottesville area, giving back to the community and sharing in the spirit of Thanksgiving.

The day was a positive experience for the students with Senior Olivia Degiorgis saying “I think it’s very important to do community service because we get to work together to build community working with students in other grades while going out into our larger community. Plus it ends up being really fun!”

Middle and high school students from the school’s upper school campus donated their time at various local nonprofit agencies such as the Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Ronald McDonald House. They also worked with churches and local neighborhoods to donate 1,500 hours of community service.

The students raked leaves in neighbors’ yards, gave walls a facelift with a fresh coat of paint, and participated in activities with residents of retirement and assisted living facilities in the community.

Spencer Burton, Middle School Director, said “This was our 4th Annual House Community Service Day. It was a joy to mobilize the entire Upper School and spread out across Charlottesville and serve over 22 different ministries, nonprofit organizations, and job sites in a variety of capacities. We have been going to the same destinations for all four years, so it is an extra blessing to see relationships taking root between our students and those they are serving.”

Leslie Moeller, Head of Upper School, said “It is a privilege to be able to spend a day serving the Charlottesville community. Having all of our middle and high school students out serving others helps them experience what it means to love our neighbors. We encourage community service because we hope it will become their lifelong habit.”

The Covenant School is an accredited, non-denominational Christian Liberal Arts and Sciences Institution with 540 students, ranging from pre-K through to Grade 12. The school has approximately 100 faculty and staff.
