ECommerce cooperative taps expertise of proven entrepreneur and manager

May 12, 2019 /MarketersMedia/ —

Empowery, the first-ever eCommerce Cooperative, announced today that Dennis Simonson has joined its Board of Directors. Simonson is an entrepreneur and executive with an extensive track record of growth and success. As a board member, Simonson is poised to help Empowery grow as it provides a unique partnership amongst eCommerce business owners.

“Dennis brings a wealth of knowledge to this role,” said Steve Simonson, Founder of Empowery. “He’s gone through many of the challenges that our members are facing. We are confident he will offer meaningful leadership for the cooperative.”

Simonson got his first real introduction to the business world in the home improvement industry, where he learned the most important business lessons that he still carries with him today. Starting at age 21, he essentially grew up with the business itself. For the next 9 years, his employer grew from just three people in a warehouse all the way to 50 store locations and above $50 million dollars per year in revenue.

While managing two departments, Simonson discovered the need and created two additional departments. He forged a claims system for the LTL-based freight program. This was necessary because of the high-value range of potential claims ($2,000-$3000). He and the departments under his management had to solve a wide range of problems, from showing customers' samples, to claims, to Dennis managing the growth of his team from just himself to the over 70 people under his leadership.

In 2014, and with a purchase order of just $250, Simonson was able to start his own business after many years of managing other peoples’ interests. He was able to do $150,000 in revenue starting from just that first tiny purchase order. In 2017 he bought out his partner, but also experienced his first two factory-defective shipments back-to-back.

The Empowery platform enables members to harness the purchasing power of the many. Internet Sellers can leverage Empowery to cut costs and increase efficiency, but remain independent at the same time. Members gain access to a network of successful business owners. As a group, members share their knowledge and experience. A member-owned, non-profit organization, Empowery is able to deliver the majority of its profits back to its members. The Empowery board consists of Simonson, Erin Taylor, Marcos Ortega, Melissa Simonson, Dennis Simonson, Ed Morgan and Evan Hackel.
