Manage Stress – It may seem like a separate issue, but stress elevates the effects of diabetes, and can increase the risk of developing the disease in people who are pre-diabetic. People experience stress from injuries the body has to deal with, but they are also exposed to stress daily from their jobs, school, arguments with loved ones, traffic and bills, and much more. It’s everywhere.

People can help alleviate stress by creating a comfort zone at home. A hot tub installed in the back yard is a great way to create a stress-free ambiance that is immediately relaxing. Monitor Foot and Hand Health – One of the first areas affected by Type II diabetes are the extremities. Take the time every day to examine the top and especially bottom of each foot, and check out each hand daily as well for any cuts, bruises or swelling. Care for any minor injury and speak to a physician immediately if healing takes too long, the injury becomes worse instead of better, or if any signs of infection have set in.

Get Regular Checkups – Waiting to see a doctor only makes the problem of Type II diabetes worse. Not just because the disease has had longer to develop, but because side effects from the disease may have begun. Type II diabetes contributes to heart disease, stroke, loss of vision, and kidney disease. See a doctor at least once a year for a regular checkup and get blood sugar levels checked.
