Featuring the image of a large Sarasvati mural captured on the streets of the East Village, Sarah James Jazz Merch’s new tee combines the understated cool that photographer Sarah James identifies with all NYC street art, with the colorful styling of classic Hindu art and iconography.
As Sarah James explains, “Goddess Sarasvati, also known as the Hindu Goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom, holds a revered place in Hindu mythology and culture. Adorned with grace and divine beauty, Sarasvati is known as the embodiment of creativity, intellect, and the power of speech.” And it is because of this association with creativity that she felt particularly drawn to capture this image and transform it into a piece of wearable art.
In Sarah James’ capture of this found image of Sarasvati, she is framed by intricate detailed illustrations of lotus flowers, clouds and other symbolic images that demand the viewer take a closer look. The Sarasvati Long Sleeve Tee does justice to this unique image by placing it in the center of an otherwise plain, crew neck, long-sleeve t-shirt.
Interested shoppers can buy the 100% pre-shrunk cotton t-shirt online in an array of different classic and bold colors, and it is available in sizes S-3XL.
Sarah James Jazz Merch is the new online apparel and merchandise store of photographer Sarah James. They are continuing to release new t-shirts from their NYC Graffiti Tee Line.
A spokesperson for the new online store said, “This is the fifth release of the NYC Graffiti Tee Line in our NYC Graffiti Art Apparel Series focusing on the graffiti art of the East Village, Lower East Side and Manhattan. We look for incredible murals, posters, and found images on buildings, telephone poles, and other unusual surfaces.”
