Owner Arrested After Tiger Runs Free In Texas Neighborhood

June 04, 2021 - /PressAdvantage/ - The owner of a tiger was recently arrested after his tiger managed to get free and wander around a Houston, TX neighborhood on Sunday night. The tiger has still not been found but residents of the Houston suburb have been submitting reports claiming to have seen the tiger. One neighbor was quoted saying that families had spotted the tiger sitting in the front yard of a home while out on an evening walk. The tiger has been caught on video walking toward a Waller County sheriff’s deputy who lives in the neighborhood.

The police arrested the tiger’s owner, Victor Hugo Cuevas, on Monday night. Cuevas was released on bond. Tigers are not allowed in Houston unless a handler, like a zoo, is in charge of caring for the animal. Multiple Houston residents have been found guilty of keeping big cats in their yards. During the winter storm in February, a pet tiger was found in Bexar County wearing a harness and was rescued and moved to Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Henderson County. Another tiger was found abandoned in a home in Houston. It was subsequently named Loki and moved to Black Beauty Ranch as well.

A number of politicians are pushing the Big Cat Public Safety Act in Congress, which would ban the possession of big cats like tigers and lions as pets and make it illegal to use them at facilities that allow public contact with big cats. The Houston tiger remains at large, however, and a number of families in the area are concerned for their safety, fearing what could happen should they come in contact with the tiger.
